Saint John of God, the patron of nursing
San Juan de Dios is a Portuguese saint, nurse and the founder of the Hospitaller Order that bears his name. This health worker developed pioneer care methods in his time as the comprehensive care of the needy person, respecting their dignity and defending their rights.
San Juan de Dios effectively addressed the organization of care spaces by classifying patients by gender, age groups and diseases, something inappropriate in their time but that he knew how to invoke and apply from the perspective of nursing.
